MSP and Tech Searchers--Does the ETA Model still apply?

My recent thoughts say no. My thoughts are formed on a few key premises, outlined below. A brief background on myself: I have spent my career doing M&A for global MSPs, Managed IT, and Cloud Communications companies. Naturally, when I launched my search fund, I wanted to acquire a business in this space. I am now questioning that more than ever.
Key Assumption: No operating / technical experience
Premise 1: ETA works because profitable (largely blue collar) businesses that have been around for decades are, well, less than efficient. Poor back-office systems, poor use of technology, poor marketing, little to no grasp of financials.
Premise 2: Implementing these efficiencies are relatively simple and lead to meaningful improvements in the business.
Premise 3: As the acquirer you will not be the product / service deliverer regardless of the business. You won't be fixing the HVAC system; you won't be installing hardwood floors
Premise 4: The lack of technical expertise is not an issue due to Premises 1&2. You are not trying to reinvent how an HVAC system is installed, you are just making the "business" side of the house run like an actual business rather than a boomer-aged glorified job.
Premise 5: MSPs, software dev
