We use Hubspot extensively for reaching clients, and during our search-phase used Insightly to hire interns. We are not large enough (hiring so much) that we would ever implement a true ATS. In the interest of not cluttering our CRM, we've used spreadsheets to track applicants, etc. Curious to hear how other folks do a great job with their hiring!

Hey Brian it's your former classmate here. Interesting question. The advantage of an ATS is that you have automated workflows built in to streamline the hiring process. There are several cost effective options in the marketplace. While technically you can use a CRM to house the applicant data, it would require several custom fields and workflows as I don't know of any that have fields and workflows specific to hiring.
