Partnering with roll-up operators as a principal and investor - Canada/US & Europe
Hey everyone,
Wanted to introduce myself and share what I've been working on in the roll-up space, as it might be relevant to some of you.
I'm a Canadian entrepreneur and investor, based between Montreal and Paris. I spent eight years as a founder and CEO, built and scaled a Canadian online grocery business, raised capital, managed a team of 30, and eventually sold. I've been in the trenches as an operator and understand what building and growing a business actually looks like from the inside. Since then I've been involved in many deals on both sides of the Atlantic, both as an investor and as an advisor on buy-side and sell-side opportunities. Today I invest my own capital in LMM PE deals and public equity, and I sit on the investment committee of a non-profit.
My view on roll-ups: I think they are the best strategy in lower middle market PE right now. Done well, they compound in a way few other models do. But they require two things: genuine entrepreneurial drive and operating instinct on one side, and serious M&A and finance capability on the other. The platforms that have both tend to win.
What I do is work alongside founders and operators who are exceptional at running their business but haven't built the M&A or fundraising muscle yet. I bring that side of the table: structuring the acquisition strategy, sourcing targets, running deal processes, raising capital in whatever form fits the situation, growth equity, convertible notes, debt, or a blended stack.
I invest directly in the situations I work on when it makes sense, and I'm happy to take part of my economics in equity rather than cash. Depending on the situation, I get involved at board level, in an advisory capacity, or as a partner on the platform.
I'm currently working on a couple of build-ups in Western Europe and North America, in the trades and in the veterinary space, alongside seasoned operators who know their industries deeply. Happy to share more in a direct conversation.
I am looking to connect with roll-up operators/searchers who need M&A and capital-raise support, founders building a platform who want a partner rather than an advisor, and intermediaries who have situations where a principal-style involvement makes sense.
Feel free to reach out!
Thanks,
Thibaut
