Wondering whether anyone has brought in a management company post close to revamp the business, or hired a very experienced CEO to take the reigns? Interested to hear people's thoughts on this approach and people's experiences if any. Thank you

Thanks Luke. Good question — I’ve seen both approaches work. For first-time searchers, a lot of the value comes from stepping into the business yourself post-close. You learn the real drivers quickly. Bringing in help usually works better once you know where the real bottlenecks are. I’ve generally seen better results with targeted interim or fractional leaders rather than a full management company. Hiring an experienced CEO can also work, especially if the business is already stable and the focus is on scaling, not fixing. True turnarounds are a different animal and often benefit from seasoned operators with clear authority and incentives. My bias, get in early, learn the business, then add help where it really matters.

Since joining SearchFunder, a number of members have reached out to me for support pre/post LOI and post-close execution. On your question: both paths can work, but the right answer hinges on at least two issues: (1) what problem you’re solving (ie., capability gap, time constraints, or other) and (2) your business model (investor/operator vs. chair/oversight or other). This is easier live. Happy to do a quick Zoom/Meet —DM me your email and I’ll send a calendar invite.
