I am looking at a potential deal in the office furniture space. The company designs the space, and then sells and installs the furniture. My general question is on the future outlook of the industry itself given commercial real estate’s hit during COVID and now the growth in remote work forces. The company seems to be defying these headwinds with several years of strong performance, including 2020.

There may be opportunities for support sectors such as office suppliers that revolve around the larger commercial real estate industry. Although CRE in general has taken a major hit amidst the chaos, some prudent operators have taken to refurbishing and renovating during a period of low vacancies. Furniture suppliers might be in a position to ride this trend, especially if they have preexisting supplier relations. This is certainly the case with major Hoteliers who are able weather the storm and who have cash reserves for such expenses. I am not sure about the office real estate sector though, given that office real estate usually has longer FF&E renovation cycles than Hotels. Might still be worth a look!
