About New Wood Capital
New Wood Capital is a self-funded search fund focused on acquiring and operating a single small to mid-sized business in the Northeastern United States. NWC blends the discipline of private equity with the entrepreneurial mindset of a founder-led search. Interns work directly with the founder, gaining exposure to the real-world process of sourcing, evaluating, and pursuing acquisition opportunities in today’s small business market.
Role Overview
This internship offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to an active acquisition search. As an Analyst Intern, you will help identify promising businesses, assess their viability, research industries, review financial statements, and assist in outreach efforts to owners and brokers. Interns routinely help identify target acquisitions through research and list building, review potential deals, and support due diligence. Because NWC is a lean operation, you will have room to take ownership, think independently, and directly influence how opportunities move through the pipeline.
What You’ll Learn & Gain
Interns walk away with hands-on private equity and entrepreneurial experience. You’ll learn how to think like an investor, how to break down a company’s financials, understand its competitive landscape, identify red flags, and determine what makes a business scalable. You’ll also develop practical skills in sales, outreach strategy, diligence preparation, and market research.
Perhaps most importantly, you’ll receive direct mentorship from the founder, with ongoing guidance, exposure to real conversations, and a front-row seat to the ETA model. Many alumni describe this internship as the most practical preparation for careers in private equity, investment banking, management consulting, or future entrepreneurial ventures.
