About Avalerian
Avalerian is a private investment firm that has raised a Search Fund with the goal of identifying high-quality software businesses to acquire, own, and operate for the long term.
We are looking for motivated individuals with an interest in Private Equity, Banking, Investing, or Entrepreneurship who would like to learn how to source deals, run due diligence analysis, run LBO models, and learn about the private equity industry.

Internship Description
As a Private Equity Intern, you will play a key role in sourcing deals, managing deal flow, due diligence, doing financial modeling, and executing transactions. You will develop a fundamental knowledge of lower-middle market private equity, lead teams through investment research and work closely with Avalerian’s leadership through due diligence of potential investments. You will also gain valuable experience evaluating potential investments, developing robust financial models, creating valuations (comparable companies, comparable transactions, DCF, LBO) and structuring transactions.
The successful candidate will be working closely with Avalerian’s leadership for a minimum of one full semester. Avalerian is looking for a highly skilled and motivated candidate who has an interest in business, finance, and investing. The intern will be expected to conduct research and analysis on a wide range of industries, sub-industries and companies.
Start date is flexible.
What the Internship will offer
The successful candidate can expect to receive the following through their internship:
• An understanding of the private equity industry broadly and an understanding of what Avalerian does specifically – from both an investing and business perspective
• Training on investing topics including financial modeling, characteristics of a good business, financial analysis, due diligence, etc.
• Mentorship and experience working directly with Avalerian’s leadership and exposure to live deals and transactions
• Resume enhancement through a valuable internship with hands-on experience; the successful candidate can expect references and letters of recommendation contingent on positive performance
• Help with recruiting, including networking, mock interviews, and resume review
Responsibilities and Duties
• Work closely with the firm’s leadership to identify industries, sub-industries and business that meet the firm’s investment criteria
• Review live deals, screen companies with Avalerian’s proprietary screening process
• Research and analyze industries, sub-industries and businesses; present findings to the entire team
• Data management: ensure the integrity of data that is entered into the CRM & upgrade the data currently in the CRM
• Joining seller and broker calls
• Helping with due diligence on target acquisitions
• Support ad-hoc requests: may include generating reports and statistics, gathering market information on companies and industries, etc.
• Help automate and improve Avalerian’s systems and processes
Qualification and Skills
• Excellent analytical, research, organizational, and communication skills – both written and verbal
• Maturity to work with sellers, brokers, and principals
• Positive personality and a ‘can-do’ mentality – proactive approach to work
• Superior work ethic & integrity with a willing to go above and beyond
• Uncompromising attention to detail and results driven
• Ability to work and deliver in an independent work atmosphere
• Comfortable using Google suite, Excel, PowerPoint, Zoom and other financial software applications
Educational Background
• Candidates who are either currently enrolled in an undergrad program or in a master’s degree program or have successfully completed these programs
• Coursework relevant or application to business, finance, or accounting is preferable. Avalerian will consider interns with coursework or degrees in other related or quantitative fields
