Hi guys,
Hope everyone is doing well. I have a call with an m.p at a private equity firm, and I was wondering which type of questions I should ask him to spark an insightful conversation and really get me to learn more about P.E at that firm. If anyone could let me know which type of questions would best allow me to do that, I would greatly appreciate it.

^redacted‌ gives really good advice, think about some thoughtful questions you can ask about their portfolio companies, especially if you can tie that particular partner to a company or two in the portfolio.

One other bit of general advice I would add is to make sure you come prepared to the call, read the networking guides on best practices, sketch out some questions you want to cover, etc. but don't come off like a total robot. It can be pretty obvious that someone is going through the motions or just asking me questions based on a BIWS guide/WSO post vs. having a conversation. This will likely take time and reps but remember, it is a conversation - relax and let it flow. Good luck!

Hard to generalize but I always appreciate when an interviewee has done their research on the firm’s portfolio companies and asks about the thesis. From there you can ask how they thought about risks and mitigants. That’s generally more insightful than asking about the investment highlights or financing.
