Outside of IESE's biennial study where is the best place to learn more about the ETA ecosystem in Europe -- including country by country nuances. Curious also on best resources to get a sense on deal flow, etc. Appreciate the help!

I recently finished my Master's Thesis on the applicability of the traditional search fund model in Switzerland and came across a number of informative journal articles and theses. One such article published by Ener and D´avila called "What makes search fund entrepreneurship different in Europe?" talks about the nuances of search funds in Europe compared to their North American counterparts. Here is the DOI https://doi.org/###-###-#### /j.emj###-###-####

I also agree that the Polish article is of great substance along with Max Oestreich's published paper focusing on the DACH region. Also, there is a handful of open accessed Masters Theses on the topic of ETA & country-specific search funds such as Italy, Finland and Denmark. Let me know if you are interested in reading them and I can send them to you.

Hi Alex, well, Europe is not as homogenous as the USA. Research is nearly non-existent and very distributed. Every country has their own legal system, different tax system, different business culture, different financial tools, etc. The UK would be the closest to the USA, but again completely different from its neighbour France, which is again completely different from its neighbour Germany. One example: family-external business succession is quite normal in the UK, but still frowned upon in Germany or Austria. Their is a study which has determined the social aspect of business succession through the search fund model in Spain, a different one for Finland, one for Poland and also my published paper focusing on the German-speaking countries. As I said, unfortunately, there is no one resource for understanding SFM application in Europe. Best from Austria, Max
