Rethinking my search and looking for community input on industry selection

I spent about 2.5 years searching somewhat passively while working full time as a sales rep for a large tech company. I made it far along with 5 deals that all fell through in late stages for different reasons. I'm now rethinking my search, and going from 100% broker represented to almost entirely proprietary. I am really drawn to the events industry. I've worked as an AV tech and also in a banquet hall way back and was excited by the margin earned by my employers. I'm thinking these are the two types of business I'd like to target in my proprietary search but wanted to hear from the community what some pros / cons are about pursuing these businesses (AV business, Banquet hall ideally including RE).

There was a recent podcast on My First Million that talked about a guy who bought a bag company. It was great. If you are considering buying a company, I highly recommend listening. Having a sales background is extremely beneficial to whatever business you buy as long as you can fill the other operational roles in the beginning.

My first recommendation is to switch from passive to active and from part time to full time, unless you are willing to spend a lot of money to get a buy side broker to do prop outreach for you. Hard to get a deal done and closed if you are not 100% focused on it in my opinion and experience
