Running HVAC business without HVAC background

I wanted to get folks feedback on running a HVAC business without HVAC background. I am planning to buy a existing HVAC business which has already structure in place along with a manager. Me as a owner want to help in business development / sales, business oversight and financials. As i run the business I do want to get experience on HVAC to the extent I can run my business smoothly and rely on senior folks and Manager on HVAC technical knowledge related areas. Just wanted to get the feedback here ? Any thoughts ?

I highly recommend this book for a basic understanding of the HVAC trade. redacted. They also have a youtube channel with a ton of content. I bought the book and a set of Fieldpiece tools to recharge my own A/C unit after having a bad experience with a local HVAC company. I also got EPA 608 certified for $10 via skillcat. The learning there was also very useful for understanding exactly what AC units do. I also enjoyed this book about thinking like an HVAC engineer, which is probably not how all or most techs think. This book also talks about heating systems. redacted My point here is that you can understand the fundamentals of the trade in a few short weeks. This will arm you with baseline knowledge so when you talk to the techs you have a better chance of understanding what they are talking about. If you leave this knowledge till later, you will have to trust that your team is telling you the truth. If they see that you have a baseline understanding, they won't necessarily know how much you do or don't know about what they are telling you.

i'd think this is totaly doable. the gaps are more on the business, marketing, pricing side. i'd be most concerned about key person risk if your manager leaves
