Sanity check needed — is childcare a good first acquisition or am I thinking too small?

Putting this out to the community because I genuinely don't know the answer.
I have an LOI accepted on a daycare business. The numbers work, and I like the business. But I keep coming back to this nagging question — am I thinking too small? Is childcare a sector that rewards a strong operator or are there structural things I should be worried about that aren't obvious from the outside?
A little context on me: I'm an ex-Meta/Google operator, 15+ years running growth and revenue at scale. I can build systems, manage teams, scale operations.
Things I'm genuinely uncertain about:
Staffing — I keep hearing this is the existential challenge in childcare right now. How bad is it really?
Licensing and regulatory risk — how much of a moat is it, and how much of a headache?
Is a single location a dead end or a launchpad for a portfolio?
And honestly — has anyone here done childcare and loved it or regretted it?
Anyone who's been in this industry or evaluated it seriously — would love to hear from you. 👇
