Hi Conrad, I own a few businesses, including an executive placement firm and a management consulting firm. We don’t do SAP implementation, but we definitely work in similar circles. Happy to be a sounding board if it would be helpful. My biggest question would be the size and complexity of the business. How many employees? How many key accounts? How much of the role is truly GM/P&L leadership versus business development and account management? Is the GM accountable for implementation/delivery, even if they aren’t personally leading the technical work? I’d also look closely at span of control. Ideally, I’d want this person to have around four direct reports and probably no more than six. As a recent reference point, I placed a COO with a roughly $250M heavy-equipment manufacturer. The role required relocation, oversees four plants, and owns essentially every facet of the business other than sales and marketing. We ultimately negotiated $275K base, a 20% performance bonus, plus 1% equity per year, fully vesting to 5% after five years. Obviously that’s a substantially larger operating role, but I mention it because I think the scope of the position matters more than the title when determining compensation.
