Job Summary & Description
Veracity CFO & Bookkeeping is seeking a detail-oriented and highly motivated Staff Accountant to join our growing team. The Staff Accountant will play a crucial role in supporting our clients' financial operations by managing various accounting functions, including bookkeeping, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, benefits administration, account reconciliations, and financial reporting and analysis. This position requires a proactive individual with strong organizational skills and a commitment to accuracy. The ideal candidate has the curiosity to learn the entire financial operations of a small business in a dynamic, service-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities
Bookkeeping & Transactional Accounting: Perform day-to-day bookkeeping tasks, including recording financial transactions, reconciling bank statements, and maintaining general ledgers for multiple clients.
Accounts Receivable (AR): Manage client invoicing, track incoming payments, and follow up on outstanding receivables to ensure timely collections.
Accounts Payable (AP): Onboard new vendors, process vendor invoices, schedule payments, and maintain accurate AP records while ensuring compliance with client payment terms.
Financial Reporting: Prepare and deliver ongoing financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow forecasts, and custom dashboards, to provide clients with clear visibility into their financial performance.
Payroll: Onboard new employees, process various payroll schedules, calculate and update payroll deductions, submit state tax registrations, and post and match payroll journal entries.
Benefits Administration: Assist with enrollment and administration of employee benefits, including health, retirement, and ancillary benefits. Maintain accurate benefit records and respond or assist with employee benefit questions.
Client Support: Collaborate with clients and internal team members to address inquiries, resolve discrepancies, and ensure a high level of service satisfaction.
Compliance & Accuracy: Ensure all financial records comply with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, and client-specific requirements (supporting and preparing data for audits and filings as necessary).
Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and enhance efficiency in bookkeeping and financial operations processes.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
1-3 years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or a similar role (fractional accounting experience is a plus).
Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks Online, Quickbooks Desktop) and other related software suites (Excel, Outlook, Gmail, Gsheets, Bill.com, etc.).
Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong organizational (Inbox 0) and time management skills.
Knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and basic tax regulations is preferred.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Experience with payroll processing (ADP, Gusto, QBO Payroll) and benefit administration is highly desired.
Experience in a client facing role is a plus.
Local to Baltimore, MD is preferred.
