Tax Team Lead - The Wizard of Returns, Deductions & Dad Jokes 📍 Location: Roaring Fork Valley, Colorado (Hybrid) 🧾 Reports To: Owner/Visionary/Resident Nut Job 🔧 Role Type: 80% Tactical, 20% Strategic About the location...this is part of an acquisition we're doing and you'll be taking over responsibility for a lot of the seller's tax clients as well as leading the entire tax team. Getting someone local or willing to relocate to the Roaring Fork Valley would be our ideal option as we'll be buying the office space along with this acquisition too. However, absent that we're looking for a Colorado CPA who at the bare minimum would be willing to come to the office for a few days a few times a year during tax season to be able to meet with the clients who still prefer to meet in person. For this specific role we are not able to consider a fully remote candidate. ________________________________________ About the Role If you know your way around a K-1, can spot a Schedule C mistake from a mile away, and still find time to smile (and maybe even laugh at a tax pun), you might be our next Tax Senior / Supervisor. We’re looking for someone who can lead with precision, communicate like a human, and is just as excited about mentoring up-and-coming talent as they are about decoding complex tax puzzles. You’ll prepare and review returns, guide clients through tricky IRS territory, and collaborate with a team that’s equal parts sharp and silly. This is more than a job—it’s your next career adventure with people who care about doing great work and enjoying the ride. ________________________________________ Key Responsibilities 1. Operational Mastery Preparing and reviewing tax returns that span the alphabet: 1040s, 1065s, 1120s, and 1041s. Conducting tax research and planning that actually helps clients sleep better at night. Managing client relationships with a combo of technical know-how and good ol’ fashioned people skills. Identifying strategic tax-saving opportunities for clients who think you’re magic. Assisting with IRS and state audits—because when things get weird, you’re calm, collected, and caffeinated. Helping shape the firm’s best practices and workflows as we continue to grow and evolve. 2. Team Management – The Mentor, not the Micromanager Lead a team of 2–4 Tax Specialists (think: coach, guide, and occasional morale booster). Make sure tasks and deliverables are on track in our practice management system (Financial Cents—which is not nearly as fun as actual cents, but way more important). Do bi-annual performance reviews, helping your team level up their skills and feel like rockstars. Be the go-to problem solver when your team needs guidance (no tax question is too big or too small). 3. Content Collaboration With feedback from you team spotting great content ideas from real client questions and challenges. Provide the technical expertise by dropping knowledge bombs that can helps us create content that’s actually useful (and maybe even fun!) for our clients and prospects. While we won’t force you to become the next YouTube accounting sensation, we’d love for you to join the party and contribute to making content when you can. Whether it’s jumping in on a video, helping with a blog post, or just brainstorming ideas—your input is golden! ________________________________________ Who You Are: A CPA or actively chasing those three sweet letters. Someone with 3+ years in public accounting who’s done their share of tax work (and lived to tell the tale). Tech-savvy and confident with tax software like Lacerte, ProSystem fx, or something similar. A natural mentor—someone who enjoys helping others grow. An excellent communicator who knows when to use plain English (or the occasional well-placed GIF). A team player who leads with kindness, curiosity, and a good sense of humor. A lover of mountain views (optional, but we won’t lie—it’s a perk of being in the Roaring Fork Valley). ________________________________________ OTA Core Values (a.k.a. How We Roll) Human First: We treat every person—team or client—with kindness, empathy, and respect. Team Second: We work collaboratively, share the load, and lift each other up (no solo accounting islands here). You’re also not a bench warmer for your clients, so get in there and make a difference! Appreciation of Humor: We take our work seriously, not ourselves. Bonus points if you bring your best accounting memes. Join the Party!: We show up, stay engaged, and bring our full selves to the table—every email, meeting, and deadline. ________________________________________ What We Offer Pay: $100,000, depending on your experience and certifications Benefits: Simple IRA with up to a 3% company match Health insurance stipend (for full-time folks) 2 weeks PTO + 9 company holidays (up to unlimited PTO with tenure) $1000 annual Fitness/recreation stipend Profit Sharing Flexibility: You’ll average 35 hours a week throughout the year, with peak hours during tax season being ~55 hours a week for only a week or two. For the most part outside of tax season, the office is closed on Fridays too. We care a lot more about taking care of our clients, than what hours you have your butt in a chair. A Team Rowing in the Same Direction: We’re a remote crew that supports each other like we’re in the same boat…or office…even though we’re not.
