Diligence
Technical & AI-Security Due Diligence (from someone who built and ran one)
I build and operate multi-tenant SaaS platforms in regulated markets, and I know exactly what a surface-level tech review misses when you’re buying one, because I’ve found all of it in my own.
Most technical diligence is done by people who’ve never had to keep the thing running at 2am. I have. Two years as the founder, sole engineer, and operator of a compliance platform: eleven live vendor integrations, automated billing, cryptographic audit trails, the works. I wrote every line and fixed every fire, which means I can see the stuff a checklist can’t. The integration debt. The “internal only” systems quietly open to the internet. The credentials sitting in code history. The jobs that report success while silently failing. The AI-written code that demos clean and hides subtle correctness gaps.
The key-person dependencies that walk out the door the day the founder leaves.
I’ve posted a whole series in the discussions here this week on exactly this: what a data room won’t show you, AI-written code risk, security under the hood, integration debt, the founder-absorbs-it problem, and how to read a company’s fix history. That’s the lens I bring.
What I do: technical due diligence on software companies before you sign, AI-code and AI-security review for the growing number of companies built fast with AI, and fractional technical leadership for buyers who close and then need someone who can actually run the tech. Full details at seansteinhoff.com.
I work remote, I move fast, and I’ll tell you the truth about what you’re buying even when it’s not what you want to hear. If you’re under LOI on something technical and want a builder’s eyes on it before you commit, reach out. Happy to do a first pass and tell you where I’d dig.
