Hi all -

I went to the search fund conference at HBS in early December, and one of the things that particularly stood out to me was the theme of finding and capitalizing on microniches - uncovering those industries that you may not have even been aware of previously. So, for example, instead of focusing on the insurance industry as a whole, maybe a search funder will be better served focusing on a specialized area within that industry - professional liability insurance providers for dental practices, as an example.

What are some tips and strategies you all have used to uncover attractive and growing microniches? Would be very interested in hearing thoughts or sparking a discussion.

Thanks.

I think you've either got to know the industry yourself or find that 'river guide' who can really help uncover those niches. Unless you've got someone who's lived in that space for some time, i think they can be tricky to uncover.
