Transitioning from Marketing to M&A

I’m wondering how difficult it would be to transition from my current role specializing in digital marketing, into a support role with an M&A team. I’m not sure if it would be more realistic or beneficial to join a PE firm or a search team. Ultimately long term, I’m looking to become a deal maker but considering joining a team to learn.

Any thoughts?
