Vehicle Fleet Inspection for Business Acquisition - Recommended Mechanics in SoCal

I need to hire a mechanic to inspect a 20 vehicle fleet as part of diligence for an acquisition I am working on. I am based on Orange County, CA and interested in any recommendations on mechanics that specialize in this type of thing, or that people have a good experience with in the past. Also interested in any tips about how to find someone for this from people who have done it before in other regions.

Since you're based in Orange County, I did a Google search, and it looks like OC Fleet Services in Santa Ana could be a reputable choice; they work with commercial fleets regularly and are equipped for multi-vehicle jobs like this. Another option is Certified Automotive Specialist. I don't know your exact location, but they're likely a bit farther out. However, they appear to be thorough with pre-purchase inspections, which might be worth it depending on how deep you want to go. Mobile Mechanics of SoCal could be a good fit; they come to you, which is great if the vehicles are parked in one place. Just confirm that they've handled complete fleet inspections before and not just one-off diagnostics. Another idea is to ask the seller which shop(s) currently service their fleet and request any available inspection reports or maintenance history for each vehicle. This can give you a clearer picture of how well the fleet has been maintained. I'd also suggest contacting auto body shops they've done business with to check for any past bodywork that may have been performed; sometimes, accident history doesn't show up in mechanical records alone. It's worth doing diligence on the seller's insurance provider to uncover any past claims, especially if accidents or major repairs weren't disclosed. I would let the repair facility know you're looking for formal inspection reports, including VIN-level detail, repair estimates, and DOT/safety compliance checks. That last part is important, not all shops think to include it unless you ask, but it's central if you're inheriting vehicles that need to stay road-legal or pass commercial inspection standards.
