Looking for rubrics or tips for hiring C-suite level folks, primarily CEOs. What is the number one thing you look for in a high-level leader?

Previous comments are helpful, I would like to add a comment from the perspective from a CIO. I have worked with CEOs who come from Sales, Marketing, and Operations. A great CEO can come from any discipline or industry but must be able to bring a leadership team into consensus around a vision and then can facilitate execution by removing barriers and creating accountability.

The most effective are those who leave their personal backgrounds behind and look to understand the business from all angles. For example, a CEO with a Marketing bias that can't see problems in Operations and will not accept input from others could create an unbalanced strategy.

In my opinion leaders with a cookie cutter approach to business are the most dangerous.

Here are some of the major criteria I'd look for:

-Strong, moral character and background
-Coachability
-Overall verbal and written communication skills
-Track record of success in the industry
-Track record of creating shareholder value
-Ability to identify, adapt, and capitalize on industry trends and market tailwinds and headwinds
-A strong vision for the company
-Capital allocation strategy

Of course the priority of these, and other, criteria is going to also depend on a few factors like the size of said company.

Would be more than happy to chat in detail about this sometime! Feel free to either DM me or email me at redacted
