Those in the UK - does anyone know what your status is during the search phase with respect to personal home remortgage? Are you considered self-employed or can the banks view it as a job given the defined salary?

Are you doing a traditional, funded search? I assume the answer is yes, and if this is the case I would suggest one of the specialist self-employed mortage firms would provide free advice. Crunch is one. https://www.crunch.co.uk/what-we-do/mortgages/. I would also consider what % of traditional funds actually find a company in the UK, as I believe the number is lower than the US. So you might want to consider this as a personal input.

Apologies I'm only just seeing this now. Indeed, there are a whole host of specialist self-employed mortgage firms & brokers - in part because there is a large independent consultant sector here in the UK and catering to that as well. I can recommend Campbell at Bull Ferguson, https://www.bullferguson.com/
