Where should I start with financial modeling?

I don't have a finance background. What is the best place to start learning financial modeling when looking at potential deals? I'm pretty comfortable with Excel and can mess with spreadsheets, I just want to understand how to approach it. I would be grateful for any books/podcasts/webinars or spreadsheet templates or even just ideas to help me get started. Thanks!
