Where to find information on LMM PE deals?

One tactic I've been using to dig up more industries to pursue is looking at PE portfolio companies for inspiration. What I've been doing so far is looking at their websites and using their portfolio companies to reverse engineer my own proprietary outreach (e.g., NAICS codes, industry keywords).

The problem I'm running into is finding a centralized source of LMM PE firms and their portfolio companies. I've just been using Google so far, which doesn't feel efficient. I've also looked into Pitchbook, but subscription seems too pricy for my needs.

Does anyone have a good source for information on smaller PE deals?

Pitchbook is your best bet. Pitchbook subscription is as pricey as it is because their data requires significant manual collection, including web scraping and calls with bankers/PEGs. Was a Pitchbook user for 5yrs while in LMM PE. Sourcescrub is good for company sourcing, but is similar in price.

Alternatives to find PEGs include Inc 500's Founder Friendly Investor List (free), Private Equity International (PEI) GP database (3.5-7k/yr), PE Insider, and Google Alerts to create your own database. Unfortunately, none of these will include any financial/valuation stats.

Sign up for an account with Axial. Their market intel, which they regularly publish, is the most reliable in the market.

SPP Capital Partners (a lender and debt placement firm) also provides a quarterly market update, which is best-in-class.
