Someone recently messaged me about why we allow anonymous posts on Searchfunder. We allow anonymous posts so that people can ask questions that they might hesitate to share otherwise. Behind every Anonymous Post is a real person. Everyone on Searchfunder is required to use their real name, profile picture and LinkedIN url to participate. [Please help us flag profiles that aren't following the rules] We don't allow anonymous commenting, since abuse tends to happen in the comments. There are plenty of other places on the internet to be nasty. Searchfunder is supposed to be a collaborative community. We're here to help each other! :-)

They could be working a full-time day job and searching for a business to buy part-time that would require them to leave their day job. They may not want their name on questions as they don't want it to get back to their current employer. Seems pretty rational to me.

This makes sense. I can see a variety of reasons on why someone may want to protect their identity on a given post, especially if they are asking questions pertaining to a specific deal they are working on...e.g. situations where if the post was known by the other party, could actually impact the deal.
